Belly Update

Mason went in to the gastroenterologist for a follow-up appointment yesterday. The prevacid is really helping quite a bit! Now that the reflux is under control, Mason is sleeping better. He is also eating better! It is so nice to actually see him eat a good portion of food.

Even though the medicine is helping him sleep better, he has still been acting like his belly was hurting. It is not the same way he was acting with the reflux though. With the reflux, he would sit up in bed, throw his head back and cry. He isn't doing that any more. Now, he is just pulling his knees up to his chest, like abdominal cramps. So, we told them that at his appointment. They did an xray to check for constipation, and found that Mason is severely constipated. The nurse said that he was bordering "fecal impaction", which I think means stuff was almost completely backed up (heh). It is good that we caught it. They prescribed some stool softeners for Mason to start taking daily for a while. We are hoping that this will get him all fixed up and he will have relief at night.

The best news is that all of Mason's other tests came back good. He has reflux and constipation, but that is all. No food allergies or weird diseases, so we are very happy about that. Also, now that Mason is on the reflux medicine, we are hoping that he will be able to tolerate dairy products. It will be so nice if he can eat this stuff because then he can eat the normal menu at day care and we won't have to cook him special meals at home.
