Feeling better

I'm staying home with Mason today after his testing. He has been clingy and whiny all day since his testing. I'm not sure if he is having some after effects from the anestesia, or if he is irritated where they put the scope down him. Also, he might just be a little upset about the whole thing, I'm just not sure. He seems to be feeling better than he was earlier, but still clingy. Hopefully, he'll be back to himself tomorrow.

Our Brave Boy

We went in for Mason's testing today. He was very brave. They did a scope down to his small intestines. The doctor saw some inflammation around his esaphegeus, and said that it is caused by silent reflux. He said that Mason's esaphegeus is loose, and so it doesn't hold the acid down like it is supposed to. The doctor gave us some acid blocking medication to give Mason. Hopefully, with this medicine, we will finally feel better and get some sleep! He also said that it is likely that Mason will grow out of it. We are lucky that this is something simple to treat, and we are hoping that this is the only thing wrong.

He took some biopsies and will run some tests to see if there are other problems. We are hoping that this is the only problem. We will go back in for a follow-up appointment in a couple weeks and we should have the results from the testing.

Below is a picture of Mason's esophageus. Normally it is supposed to be closed, but his is open. Also, you can see that there is redness from the irritation.

Testing Moved Up

Mason is going to go in for testing on Friday morning, the 22nd, at 9:00am. I'm still pretty nervous about having to put him under, but I hope that they can figure something out.

Appointment for Testing

Unfortunately, Mason can't get in for testing until October 13th. The doctor's office said that they will try to see if they can sqeeze him in some time sooner, if possible. But, for now, he is scheduled for that day. I hope that they can get him in sooner because I really don't want to wait another month!

Gastroenterologist Appointment

I took Mason to see the gastro doctor today. He said that there are a lot of things that can be causing the symptoms that Mason is having at night. Unfortunately, because there are so many, it is hard to tell what is wrong without having some testing done. The doctor has ordered that we have a scope done on Mason's esophageas. This will help us to see what is going on down there. He is also going to take some biopsies to test for inflammation and other things.

Mason will have to be put under for this testing, so we are pretty nervous about that. It is quite scary to have him go through this, but this is the only way that we can figure out what is going on so that mommy and Mason can get some sleep at night. We are also going to draw some blood to do some allergy testing while he is under. The doctor said that the blood test is much more sensitive than the skin test (which Mason has already had).

We were supposed to go in tomorrow for the testing, but they called me back and said that our insurance doesn't cover the place we were being sent. So, we are going to have to do the testing at St Vincent hospital. This means that we may have to wait several weeks before we can do it. I'm hoping we can get in sooner than that, but we'll see...

The doctor also said that sometimes they go through this testing and find nothing, so then they have to do more and more testing. I hope that they are able to find something if we have to put him through this.

Children's Museum

Efe took Mason to the Children's Museum today while Mommy was working. They had lots of fun. Mason really liked being able to walk around in the open space and all the stuff that they had to play with.
