Growing Up

This morning, I walked Mason up to get in a line full of his normal kindergarten class, the same as we do every morning. I bent over to give him a kiss when he said "Mommy, I don't WANT a kiss!" Sadly, I agreed, told him I loved him and walked away.

About 30 seconds later, I hear "MOMMY!!!!!". I turn around and see Mason in his puffy red coat running towards me with his arms out. "Mommy, please don't leave!" I bend down and his perfect brown eyes are filled with tears. He convinces me to come back to the line and wait with him. I ask him what is wrong and he tells me he just wants me to wait with him.

His teacher, Ms. Decancq, comes out to get her line of kids. Mason looks up at me a little embarrassed and said "Mommy, I really did want you to give me a kiss. That is why I came to get you." I smack a big kiss on his cheek and his eyes light up as he takes off, following the line of kids into the school. I walk away feeling relieved that he still wanted that kiss, but sad that my sweet little guy is growing up so fast.
