Did you know that New York City was once called New Amsterdam? And Harlem was named after Haarlem. The area was first colonized by the Dutch and was evenutally renamed to New York when the English catured the colony, while changing the spelling of Haarlem to Harlem.
Towards the center of Haarlem, there were a bunch of streets that it appeared cars could not travel down. The streets were so narrow, as they were built well before cars. Along the sides were adorable "Mom & Pop" shops. We stopped into a "bagel" shop, as it was the first time we have seen bagels here. The owner told Efe that their specialty was strawberry scones, and he was correct, they were delicious!
This is the main square of Haarlem.
On one side of the square was Sint-Bavokerk church, which is close to 1000 years old.
After Haarlem, we headed to the beach with is a couple miles West of Haarlem.
Mason ran up to the water too fast. He thought he was safe, but a big wave came up and got both Mason and Efe all wet. So, we didn't stay very long :)
